Social Switch is a micro coordination app concept for Windows Mobile, developed at the FH Potsdam in cooperation with Nokia. The basic goal of the project was to find mechanisms that would enable people to coordinate social activities within their peer groups.
The concept was based on the observation that it is often hard to align interests in those groups, especially when it comes to spontaneous gatherings. It also considers the fact, that there are usually people that fall out of line when the planning of a social event enters the final phase, or that don‘t want to be bothered at all from a certain point on.
Social Switch helps both sides in the process of decision making without a lot of possibly unnecessary phone calls or confusing multi-user chats. It does that by presenting the users with a simple on/off-switch, that would make them available for others to invite to a social event. The same mechanism applies when inviting certain people or groups to join an event.
